Obama ‘Brittany Murphy’s Death Why We Need Health Care Reform’
In a bold move that all major news outlets are describing as “well-timed”, “brilliant”, and “sexy” (except for Fox News which only characterized it as “mildly genius”) President Obama called an emergency press conference out on the White House lawn to lament the death of actress Brittany Murphy, and put her untimely demise squarely on our “broken health care system”. President Obama said,
From Billy Mayes to Michael Jackson we as a nation have lost a great number of national treasures this year. Now with the passing of Brittany Murphy, I’m saying enough. The time for debate is over we must act on health care reform now… I’m here today to tell you that all these celebrity deaths could have been avoided if we had affordable health care for all Americans.
Republicans opponents counter that the President was once again being disingenuous. Sen. Al Hartford from Iowa released this statement,
For the President to say that all the celebrity deaths could have been avoided with health care reform is a gross exaggeration. I’d like to know how David Carradine would still be alive today considering he killed himself performing autoerotic asphyxiation in Thailand. Even with a single payer or public option I just don’t see how that is possible.
White House Cheif of Staff Rahm Emanuel was quick to counter,
Under the President’s plan Mr Carradine would never have had to travel to Thailand in the first place. He would have been able to afford for a trained nurse to choke and beat him off. Provided that he filled out the necessary paperwork and got approval from a health review board of course.
The debate over health care continues to rage in Washington, while our nation’s most precious resource, celebrities, drop like flies. Let us hope that something gets done soon before we have no celebrities left.
Healthcare reform is not going to get doctors to stop writing dangerous prescriptions together for the same patient. Pain medicines slow respiratory response along with xanex, or Valium and they should not be taken together. Clearly celebreties aren’t responsible enough, so it’s left up to the doctors. Everyone knows that healthcare reform won’t stop this and if you believe that you’re lying to yourself.

Ashley: the doctors did not prescribe the medications all at once, nor did they prescribe them to Brittany Murphy. It was listed they were in her MOTHER and HUSBAND’s name. It’s neither the doctor or the pharmaceutical companies fault if she was taking medication that WAS NOT hers and mixing it.
Maybe people will learn to do what a DOCTOR tells them and not self-medicate, but I doubt it.

Excellent use of sarcasm, let’s just worry about filthy rich celebrity lives. Allah forbid we should loose another one of those gems that are chronic alcoholics, drug addicts, drunk drivers… I assume it will be a terrible blow to our current economy… and what loss of moral role models for our youngsters…
Drug use legal or illegal is the same problem and every person’s individual choice. I don’t think any type of health care reform that is supposed to save us money or even work within the current budget can ever save people from themselves. If it was possible DEA would be out of business long ago, and our government would be much wealthier too saving all the money they have to spend to take care of victims of self inflicted alcoholism and drug abuse who end up eventually as a permanent addition to our health care burden.
On the other hand many cancer patients are denied disability benefits cause some clerk in the social security office didn’t think they looked sick enough.
Once we get to the point where pencil pushers will decide our health… God Save The US.
When people self medicate are making a choice, and we should respect that choice. Why should we try to force every one to stay alive? People should have a right to die of overdose if they choose too. Isn’t this a free country anymore?

I am interested what is your definition of respect. If we treated each other with respect the recession would most likely not happen. We would not have predatory lending practices, we would not have prostitution, people trying to rip you off all of the time…
